Posted on October 12, 2026DANHEIM, the Nordic folk and ambient project of Copenhagen-based producer Reidar Schæfer Olsen, have released “Urblod” via Season of Mist. The single follows Heimferd, the project’s first album for the label, and turns back toward the explicit mythological storytelling of Danheim’s earlier work. Stream “Urblod”: https://orcd.co/danheimurblod “Urblod” is a ritualistic chant dedicated to the Jötnar and the primordial beings of Norse mythology, the ancient powers associated with the world before and beyond the ordered realm of the gods. It draws on figures including Ymir, Bergelmir, Þrúðgelmir, Bölþorn, Bestla and Hræsvelgr, and evokes an older, untamed layer of the mythology: creation, ancestry, wilderness, and the forces from which both gods and giants ultimately emerge. The track sits within Danheim’s established language of percussion, chant and ambient texture, here pointed at the cosmology that predates the gods themselves. “Urblod” arrives on the heels of Heimferd, released on October 31st, 2025 via Season of Mist on CD, vinyl and digital. Thirteen tracks long and Danheim’s first full-length in four years, the album continues the project’s template of pounding percussion set against minimalist, ambient passages, but is not built around a fixed mythological narrative. Olsen has described it as mood- and instinct-driven, a personal journey home to ancestry rather than a retelling of saga. Danheim says: “I wanted this track to feel like a chant reaching back beyond the gods, toward the oldest beings in Norse mythology. The Jötnar are not simply monsters or enemies of the gods: they represent something much older -primordial forces, and the untamed world from which everything else emerges.”
