More information about AEALO

ROTTING CHRIST present the new single “AEALO”, the revitalized title track from their forthcoming re-recorded edition of Aealo. Long regarded as one of the band’s defining compositions, “AEALO” embodies the album’s central vision: a fierce yet tragic portrayal of warfare shaped by ancient Greek ritual and the ancestral psychology of the battlefield.

Re-imagined with modern production and a commanding new mix, the 2025 version amplifies every detail that made the original track a cornerstone of Rotting Christ’s Hellenic era. Martial percussion, ceremonial rhythmic structures, and melodic motifs inspired by traditional Greek folk forms now surge with renewed intensity. The female lamentation choir, integral to the album’s cultural and emotional depth, emerges fuller and more present, reinforcing the sense of communal mourning that frames the song’s narrative.

As the track that first established Aealo’s thematic identity, “AEALO” channels the ancient meaning of its title, derived from the Greek term for “I destroy” or “I thrash.” Its ritualistic atmosphere reflects the broader album’s exploration of sacrifice, fatalism, and the human cost of conflict. Through this re-recording, Rotting Christ strengthen the album’s mythic resonance, revealing layers previously obscured in the 2010 release while preserving the severity and melodic clarity that define their Hellenic black metal sound.

Aealo (Re-Recorded) is out January 23, 2026 via Season of Mist.
