GÅTE Stream New Album Sigil in Full

GÅTE, the Norwegian folk-rock band from Trondheim, have made their new album Sigil available to stream in full one day ahead of its official release. The record runs ten tracks and just under thirty-seven minutes and marks the band’s first release for Season of Mist.

Across the album, GÅTE expand on their mix of Nordic folklore, dark electronics and guitar-driven rock. Hardanger fiddle, nyckelharpa and hurdy-gurdy move alongside programmed textures and heavy guitar as the songs travel from enchantment and insatiable hunger through prophecy and mortality toward a closing sense of renewal, ending on “Jostedalsrypa,” a song built around the true story of a child who survived alone in the mountains after the Black Death.

Maria Franz of Heilung guests on lead single “Sannsiger.” Further contributions come from Hardanger fiddle player Olav Mjelva, nyckelharpa and hurdy-gurdy player John Stenersen, and pianist Knut Anders Vestad and cellist Marit Aspås, who both appear on “Jostedalsrypa.”

‘Sigil’ was produced by Kristian Fanavold Tvedt and Magnus Børmark, recorded at MagnuStudio and Øra Studio, and mixed and mastered by Jacob Hansen at Hansen Studios. Artwork is by Martine Solstad Larsen, with cover design by Martin Kvamme and photography by Ole Ekker.
