Norwegian folk-rock band GÅTE releases their new single “Strandvaskar,” the third track to surface from their forthcoming album Sigil, out September 25th, 2026 via Season of Mist.

“Strandvaskar” draws on a specific coastal Norwegian superstition: the belief that a body washed ashore must be given proper burial, lest the sea return to reclaim what it lost. The Norwegian word itself names the drowned rather than the finder, and the song stages a quiet, unresolved dialogue between the two: a voice with no sound that speaks, eyes that flicker and slowly fill with blue as the sea reclaims its own. The narrator is pulled toward the dead and pulls back, not from horror but fear, letting go rather than being able to hold on. Hardanger fiddle carries the song’s undertow beneath Gåte’s electric-folk frame.
Sigil is Gåte’s first album on Season of Mist and the most internationally minded chapter of their catalogue to date, moving through ancient legend and folk narrative to ask what survives once illusion falls away. The album was recorded at MagnuStudio and Øra Studio, produced by Kristian Fanavoll Tvedt and Magnus Børmark, with “Strandvaskar” itself carrying that same production lineage through to Hansen Studios for mixing and mastering.

The upcoming fall tour will bring GÅTE to nine cities across Norway, plus one date in Istanbul, Turkey. During this ten date run, they will perform “Sannsiger”, along with other new songs and fan favourites from their celebrated discography.
