More information about Cursed Mortality

‘Cursed Mortality’ isn’t a revival. It’s a bold step into the future for one of the most brutally innovative bands in all of death metal.

Carnation’s new album comes out tomorrow, November 3. But you can get a sneak peak at ‘Cursed Mortality’ thanks to Outburn, who are premiering the full album stream a day early.

Carnation have been bringing back old-school death metal for the past two decades. On ‘Cursed Mortality’, the Belgian band are still deadly serious about inflicting maximum corporeal punishment. “Maruta” is named after an especially brutal army unit, while “Cycle of Suffering” pumps thunderous double bass kicks over a solo that grabs you by the throat.

“The manic mayhem that puts a big smile on the faces of death metal fans is front and centre…” according to Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life.

But ‘Cursed Mortality’ also shows off Carnation’s range – literally. “Replicant” flexes clean vocals. Even “Metropolis”, which barrels ahead like a train with its brakes cut, comes with a personal touch; the band are all too familiar with the relentless pace of modern life after vocalist Simon Duson had the life sucked out of him by his last job.

“It’s so refreshing when a band tweaks their formula and its pays off in spades”, The Metal Pit writes in an early review of ‘Cursed Mortality’.

The album’s title track now stands as Carnation’s magnum opus, a nearly eight-minute long reflection on growing old that’s shadowed by melodic leads, gloomy synths and tortured growls.

“This is definitely my favorite record from Carnation”, says A&P Reacts. “It feels like a more natural and focused album”.

“Finally, after two years of hard work and unwavering commitment, the release date for our third album ‘Cursed Mortality’ has arrived”, says Carnation. “We’ve been anticipating this moment for many months, and we can’t emphasize enough how excited we are to release this album. We hope we were able to strike a balance between our strong death metal foundation and the new progressive elements that we’ve added as a result of our evolution as artists. This record has been a labor of love for us, and we are genuinely curious about its reception. Most importantly, we would like to thank all the fans, press contacts, promoters, Season of Mist, District 19, and everyone else that we had the pleasure of working with to create this album. Cheers!”
