Where much of Made Flesh operates in close first-person focus, “Oblivious” widens the lens. The song examines a kind of collective paralysis, first called out, then slowly accepted as a quiet admission of insignificance. It sits inside the tension between two impulses: the lucid but powerless clarity of the conscious thinker, and a blind, restless drive toward conquest. Within that contrast, the song finds itself almost envying those who simply look away, since facing the state of things means carrying both its wreckage and the weight of one’s own unused potential.
“Oblivious” is drawn from Made Flesh, UNTITLED WITH DRUMS‘ sophomore album, recorded at Halle du Jeu de Paume in Vic-le-Comte, France. Where the album’s other songs tend to interrogate the self directly, “Oblivious” turns that same unflinching gaze outward, reinforcing Made Flesh‘s broader intent: to hold up a mirror to the parts of the human psyche most people would rather not examine.
