BENIGHTED have carved their name into the darkest corners of extreme metal, fusing grindcore ferocity with psychologically charged death metal violence since 1998. With each release, they push deeper into the abyss, shaping their sound through clinical precision and visceral conceptual storytelling.

The Spineless Freak marks a new rupture in the band’s lineage, created to introduce drummer Matthias Biechler, whose arrival detonates the band’s velocity in terrifying fashion. Recorded at Kohlekeller Studio by Kristian Kohlmannslehner, the track distills the grotesque tension and suffocating psychological horror of the Ekbom era into a single, hyper-focused blast. Matthias’ drumming, honed under Eugene Ryabchenko (Fleshgod Apocalypse), drives the song with inhuman control, capturing the body-horror, frantic torment, and frantic inner violence that define Benighted’s world. His presence infuses the band with renewed extremity, embodying the raw, manic spirit that has long fueled their descent into the most unsettling realms of brutality.
